About

North Coast Raiders Hockey Club traces its heritage back to 1903 when the Perth Hockey Club was a founding club of hockey in WA. North Coast Raiders Hockey Club was established in 1988 from an amalgamation of the Perth Hockey Club and Scarborough Hockey Club, established in 1953. North Coast Raiders Hockey Club has a strong tradition of success over a long period.

More Than Just A Club

North Coast Raiders Hockey Club, currently based at Charles Riley Reserve, Stirling, Western Australia, are a Premier One Male and Female hockey club with a strong junior’s base. We have a combined 10 Senior Grade teams as well as 7 Veteran teams and Junior Teams in all age groups, totalling roughly 550 members for the 2023 season. This number should increase as we progress and grow the club with the aim to include at least 2 teams (being a Boys and a Girls Team) in each age group as well as increasing the number of Senior teams that are involved in the club.

2023 saw our men’s Premier Side being promoted back into the Premier One Division, becoming the first Male team to achieve the feat since the competition structure changed in 2019, meaning that we are now one of only 9 sides in the state to boast both a Premier One Men’s side as well as a Premier One Women’s side.

However, as our motto dictates, it’s not just the hockey that North Coast Raiders Hockey Club base our achievements off. We pride ourselves on being “more than just a club”, meaning that our outreach to our members goes beyond just being a sporting club. We have a commitment to our juniors to develop both the hockey skills of the individuals as well as the human beings within the groups, focusing on offering training sessions around youth mental health whilst engaging with schools within our community offering access to our highly skilled coaching programs and schools’ clinic. We pride ourselves on our monthly social events, allowing all members an opportunity to mingle and mix, building relationships both within the teams but also extending to the wider club.

We demonstrate a passion to recognise the traditional custodians of our land through the launch of a new alternate playing kit across all grades, featuring aboriginal artwork, designed by the family of one of our current Indigenous members. We demonstrate a contemporary, pioneering approach to the uniforms of our players, aspiring to launch an inclusive dress code, offering female players the opportunity to play in shorts or a skort, depending on personal preference, becoming the first club in Perth to do so.

We also have a rich history, being an amalgamation of Perth Hockey Club and Scarborough Hockey Club forming North Coast Raiders in 1989. Perth Hockey Club was established in 1903, creating the first team of Hockey players, playing against a team of players from the Guildford region, making North Coast Raiders the oldest hockey club in the country. We have also had a breadth of talent play for our club throughout the years, with many Hockeyroos and Kookaburras players representing NCR throughout the years, including Australian sporting hall of fame members Rechelle Hawkes and Sharon Buchanan, as well as our current homegrown Hockeyroo Shanea Tonkin, who has been playing at Raiders since she was a junior.

Our club has a historic past and a very bright future, with exciting opportunities in the years ahead. We look forward to building the club and developing on our rich history to provide an unmatched offering to all our members.
